Title

Using School-Wide Information System (SWIS) Data to Drive Behavioral Interventions

Descriptor

Prairie Point Elementary School worked hard during the summer of 2022 to improve its efficiency and efficacy related to behavioral interventions. Our school uses data to drive our decision-making and to identify specific Tier 2 interventions. In this session, participants will learn about our story and will discover how to effectively and efficiently use SWIS reports to drive decision-making.

Title

Optimizing Classroom Efficacy With Ongoing Data-Based Decision-Making

Descriptor

Effective classrooms rely on teachers’ ability to plan and deliver instructional activities that support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral learning of all students. Achieving and maintaining effective classrooms requires the ongoing monitoring of instructional practices, teacher and student satisfaction, and student-learning outcomes. In this session, participants will examine systems and tools that assess the efficacy of classrooms for teachers and students, along with practices that encourage ongoing differentiation in order to meet the everchanging needs of students and teachers.

  • Explore options for self, peer, and expert coaching to improve the implementation of effective instructional practices
  • Consider the data characterizing effective classrooms

Title

It’s a Bulldog Thing — One School’s Journey to Gold

Descriptor

In this session, participants will learn how Topping Elementary School’s Bulldog Team worked together to meet the unique challenges of its students. By using building- and district-level supports and systems, we achieved Gold status in one school year. SW-PBS team members and administrators will walk away from this session with resources and strategies that can be implemented right away to support their students.

  • Learn how self-regulation strategies can be integrated into Tier 2 implementation with students
  • Review how strategies and systems can create a culture and an environment that are conducive to supporting all students

Connecting the Dots With Family Groups

PRESENTER: Randi Gehlert, Fourth Grade Teacher, and Jessica Toelke, Third Grade Teacher, Gerald Elementary School, Gasconade County R-II School District

Descriptor

If you ask the students (and teachers) at Gerald Elementary School what their favorite part of each week is, most of them would say, “Family groups.” As schools reach the advanced tiers of SW-PBS, they look for ways to bring the school and the community together. Gerald Elementary has created multiage groups of students to help build positive relationships among them, their families, and members of the community. In this session, come see what family groups look like, how they are formed, how they affect relationships throughout the school and the community, and what they could look like for you.

  • Discover how weekly family-group meetings build positive relationships, teach character, and serve the community

Supporting Students’ Social-Emotional Competencies Through SWPBS Systems and Practices

Effectively facilitated and thoughtfully debriefed teaching practices work together to build a solid foundation of safety, consistency, and joy in classrooms. Learn how the SEL 3 Signature Practices work in tandem with the teaching matrix to create the conditions for student learning through welcoming routines and rituals, engaging pedagogy, and optimistic closure.

  • Discover how to incorporate social-emotional competencies into your schoolwide teaching matrix

In this session, participants will discover ideas on how to create clear and consistent schoolwide expectations. You will walk away with Tier 1 ideas and strategies that you can take back and use in your own setting. The presenters also will share how they communicate and implement procedures and expectations to all staff members at their school.

Discover how South Elementary School uses a buildingwide walkthrough tool (and the data collected from it) to strengthen the Eight Effective Teaching and Learning Practices throughout the building. Participants also will receive an overview of these eight practices and will learn how they can increase both instructional time and student engagement.

A family is built with a solid foundation. Come join us to learn how Line Creek Elementary School has created a solid Tier 1 foundation for itself. Participants will receive our school’s timeline for identifying the must haves of a successful Tier 1 and will learn how we are growing into Tier 2 and Tier 3 success. You will leave this session with resources and ideas to help your building launch its own journey right away.

Screening and Matching for Tier 2 Interventions

PRESENTERS: Sara Estrapala, Assistant Research Professor, MU

Descriptor

In this presentation, participants will discover how to utilize the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire — a free, validated assessment tool that can be used to identify students requiring additional emotional or behavioral supports. Participants also will receive a framework for reviewing screening results to match students to appropriate interventions based on their individual needs. Come learn about a variety of Tier 2 categories that can target needs related to hyperactivity and inattention, peer problems, emotional symptoms, and conduct issues.

  • Understand how to implement systematic screening to identify students who require Tier 2 supports
  • Learn how to match a student need, based on screening results, to an appropriate Tier 2 intervention
  • Be able to describe the types of Tier 2 interventions available for different needs

Having effective practices in place in every classroom within a districtwide system is key to promoting teacher success along with student academic and behavioral success. This is accomplished as part of job-embedded professional learning and is how leaders and coaches support teachers’ growth. Come learn about the core features of this process, specifically how to collect teacher-performance data in order to provide feedback on key effective practices including student engagement.
