An alternative setting is an educational environment designed to accommodate behavioral, educational, and/or medical needs of students that may not be adequately addressed in a traditional public or private school environment.  The same structures for adopting, implementing and maintaining SW-PBS practices in general education schools are effective in alternative education programs when the unique features of these environments are addressed, as alternative settings must have a degree of flexibility to ensure success.
