Description
This course provides foundational and readiness information for the development of Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS) Tier 2 behavioral interventions. SW-PBS is a framework for a continuum of evidenced-based interventions to achieve academically and behaviorally important outcomes for all students. When schools have a solid foundation of Tier 1 SW-PBS systems, data, and practices for all students, planning may begin for Tier 2 systems, data, and practices that provide small group interventions for up to 15% of students who are at-risk of negative social, emotional, and/or behavioral health outcomes.
Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain the need for and benefits of a positive, proactive and instructional approach to discipline and the essential components of Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS).
- Identify key features of a Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support Tier 2 system and characteristics of maximally effective interventions.
- Determine readiness for development of Tier 2 against recommended criteria.
- Engage full staff in a process to evaluate commitment for developing a Tier 2 system and practices.
- Describe the process of intensifying supports for students who require additional intervention.
- Use the SWPBIS Tiered Fidelity Inventory to self-assess the implementation status of Tier 1 universals and Tier 2 targeted behavior support systems.
- Analyze data to update the Tier 2 Action Plan.
Prerequisites
This course is for Tier 2 teams in schools that are implementing Tier 1 with fidelity and are ready to consider planning Tier 2 systems, data, and practices.
