Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS) is a proactive approach to put behavioral/social skills strategies in place for all students while also building in support for those at risk for and/or those who receive special education services.

Tier 1 Training Materials

MO SW-PBS provides Tier 1 training and support to SW-PBS school level coaches, teams and administrators across three phases; Preparation, Emerging Level 1, and Emerging Level 2. Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support is a framework or approach comprised of 7 Essential Components which must be implemented in total for schools to reach the outcome goals they set. This training is intended to support the acquisition of content knowledge and implemenation fluency for all 7 Essential Components of SW-PBS.

Preparation Phase Training (for schools new to MO SW-PBS) 

Overall Focus: To acquire initial knowledge of all 7 Essential Components of SW-PBS and develop materials, prior to implementation with students.

  1. Administrative Support, Participation and Leadership
  2. Common Purpose and Approach to Discipline
  3. Clear Set of Positive Expectations & Behaviors
  4. Procedures for Teaching Expected Behaviors
  5. Continuum of Procedures for Encouraging Expected Behaviors
  6. Continuum of Procedures for Discouraging Inappropriate Behaviors
  7. Procedures for Ongoing Monitoring

Emerging Phase - Level 1  (for schools beginning implementation with all students)

Overall Focus: During this training the entire staff begins initial implementation for all students, with the guidance and modeling of the SW-PBS Leadership team. This phase emphasizes working toward implementation of all 7 Essential Components with fidelity, data collection to assess implementation fidelity and to consider outcomes. Classroom Level PBS is introduced during this training.

Emerging Phase - Level 2 (for schools continuing implementation with all students)

Overall Focus: During this training the entire staff, with the guidance and modeling of the SW-PBS Leadership team, works to sustain and maintain consistent implementation of all 7 Essential Components. All staff work to implement Classroom Level PBS practices within their assigned instructional settings.
