As Osher and Quinn remind us (2004), policies matter. Policies provide guidance and varying degrees of specificity, but in all cases they inform practice and help institutions make good decisions about their course of action. For most schools in Missouri, there is a hierarch of policies development. Typically federal policy informs Missouri policy, which in turn informs district policy. Schools are responsible for assuring that the policies they put into place are approved by their district school board and superintendent. At the same time, it is helpful for all of us to understand where current policies originate and what they can tell us about best practice as well as compliance. Given the importance of policy for all our work, the MO SW-PBS website will continually update the Policy information as new sources are available.
